Mahindra & Mahindra is dropping prices of its newly launched Voyager by Rs 35,000 to Rs 4.79 lakh. The drop in prices follows a series of beneficial component sourcing agreements with manufacturers from South Africa, Japan, and South Korea.

The company is also stepping up production capacity to 500 vehicles per month from the present 200 per month levels. It will now be able to cater to all the markets in the country.

M&M also plans to launch two new variants of the Voyager, which are currently being developed. We will launch an ambulance version first and then a delivery van, A E Durante executive director of the company said.

The ambulance version will be the countrys first vehicle to have been designed and engineered as an ambulance,he added. M&M is also planning to launch an air-conditioned variant of the Voyager.

The company intends to outsource a variety of auto components including heat control systems panels, tyres bearings and some other engine parts for its new range of vehicles, from SE Asian countries.

If these components can be outsourced from abroad, substantial cost reductions can be obtained. Thus, we are working out a plan for all our new range of vehicles where components will be sourced from these countries, Durante said.

While a couple of contracts with some South Korean manufacturers are being given the final shape, considerable scope exists for striking a number of such beneficial deals, he said.

Durante had undertaken an extensive tour of South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan, during the last month, to finalise the deals.
