Modest Trading In Govt Securities

Modest trading activity was witnessed in the government securities as well as the corporate debenture counter of the National Stock Exchange yesterday. Trades worth Rs 155.34 crore were struck in gilts and Rs 51.77 crore in the debentures on the NEAT system.

Newly set-up private as well as foreign banks were actively trading in the government securities. These banks have aggressive trading desks and with the overnight interest rates moving in the range of 2.25 to 3 per cent, yesterday assured a minimum spread of around 3 per cent in medium to short term maturity papers,
