Molex India To Set Up Rs 25 Cr Plant

Molex (India) Ltd, the 100 per cent subsidiary of Molex Inc - the $1.6 billion US company manufacturing connectors, plans to set up a second unit in India at an investment of Rs 25 crore to diversify into the automotive sector.

Molex India is targeting the connector market in the information technology industry, industrial automation and building automation sector.

The Indian subsidiary now supplies connectors to telecom, consumer electronics and the IT industry. The connector market in India is estimated to be worth Rs 250 crore.

Molex is presently negotiating with automobile majors like Hyundai, Daewoo and Ford-Mahindra and other foreign car manufacturers for supplying automotive connectors.

 

For Maruti Udyogs upcoming version of Maruti 800 series, it also plans to supply hi-tech connectors to suit the cars requirement for auto-winding operation.

The companys existing plant is now located at Whitefield near Bangalore.

The second plant is expected to come up in the north, according to Naren Shah, executive director, Molex India.

The Bangalore plant has facilities for both connector production and value-added cable assembly.

Molex India has so far invested Rs 40 crore in its plant in Bangalore.

The Indian subsidiary earns part of its revenue from exports to the United States, Europe and the Far East.

According to Shah, the Indian subsidiary has so far been focusing only on premium corporate building under its structured cabling product range for the construction sector.

The company introduced its Mod-tap structured cabling solutions last year.

It has also recently entered into a long-term relationship with Onward Technologies Ltd, as their country distributor for India.

Molex, the second largest connector manufacturer in the world, supplies more than 100,00 products to industries like automotive, computer, business equipment, home appliance, home entertainment, medical equipment, residential construction and telecommunication.

It has well-established presence in the Asia-Pacific region of China, Malaysia, Thailand and India.

Molex Inc has operations in 110 locations and factories in 41 locations all over the world. More than 65 per cent of revenue comes from outside the US.

In the information technology sector, Mod-Tap offers end-to-end communication cabling solution for the premises and campus network infrastructure.
