Nahar International (part of the Oswal group) has entered the IT sector with a 100 per cent export oriented unit, etextilepoint.com Ltd.
The new company has started a business-to-business site, www.textilepoint.com, which basically caters to the textile industry. As of now, no online trading is being done but, after the cyber laws are passed, this site would be involved in electronic commerce (ecomm).
"This site is basically like the yellow pages for the textile industry. Buyers and suppliers can interact about their business requirements. We are looking at a global market and are getting inquiries from countries like Switzerland and America," said T S Ravi, chief executive officer, etextilepoint.com Ltd.
The site will also cater to professionals in the textile industry who can contact various companies and get free career guidelines.
"For this we have tied up with America's textilejobs.com. They tell us about the job requirements in the US and we see from our database if anyone can fill the vacancy. This would act as a global exchange of textile professionals," said Ravi.
Etextilepoint.com, which kicked off operations in February this year, hopes to start making profits after a year or two.
The company would also be involved in creating a business-to-consumer website for Monte Carlo Collections in the country. The URL (universal resource locator) of the site is www.montecarlocollections.com. There would be a separate section for dealers and suppliers in this site and agents can place their orders as well.
Etextilepoint.com is looking at the option of making money by providing information in bulk. "For instance, a businessman wants information about T-shirt-making companies in South Asia. Now that is a huge information and we would be charging him for it. And, since we are looking at a global market, we don't want to use the traditional media for brand-building. However, if we put an association's name in our database, we would expect it to promote us," said Ravi.
The Nahar Group recently started implementing enterprise resource planning at its unit here. The Rs 3-crore order is being implemented by SISL.
Nahar is the largest exporter of garments from the country with Rs 450 crore of its turnover coming from exports. The group has got various industrial undertakings manufacturing textile products ranging from woollen/ cotton knitwears, cotton garments, cotton/ blended/ dyed/ combed yarn to grey and processed fabrics.
