Naval Chief Assures Help To Bangladesh

India yesterday assured Bangladesh of all assistance in building its own warships.

This was conveyed by Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat to visiting Bangladesh navy chief Rear Admiral Mohammad Nurul Islam who arrived here on a eight-day tour on Sunday.

Rear Admiral Islam, while holding talks with Admiral Bhagwat, expressed his countrys keen desire in seeking Indias help in formulating its indigenisation programme.

A Navy spokesman said Bhagwat assured all assistance in this field and expressed the desire to have not just a time-bound association but a long-term tie up in the field of ship building, software technology, training and other associated areas. of mutual interest.

 

During his visit, Rear Admiral Islam is scheduled to call on defence minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, minister of state for external affairs Kamla Sinha, service chiefs, defence secretary and scientific advisor to the defence minister.

This is the first ever visit by a Bangladesh navy chief to India. He has been invited by Admiral Bhagwat.
