Delhi-based Nucleus Software Exports Ltd is working on creating some short message services (SMS) applications for the banking sector. The applications add some SMS functionalities to banking service software the company has already developed.

In one application, for instance, critical information pertaining to credit limits, or even a record of transactions is delivered to a chief financial officer's mobile in the form of an SMS message.

"This way, a service is possible where the record of the last five transactions on a corporate account is delivered to the CFO or the relevant financial officer the first thing in the morning. Currently, the bank may anyway send out the information, but both e-mail and fax are essentially location specific. Delivery to a mobile phone will ensure that the official receives the information, regardless of whether or not he/she is available in the office", said Vishnu R Doused, managing director, Nucleus Software.

Nucleus is currently building similar applications for Bank of America, for services that will be offered to corporate clients.

In the pipeline are services based on Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) _ the platform for mobiles accessing applications on remote networks.

The applications will enable users to access accounts, carry out account-to account transfers, or even request a draft. Users will also be able to see mini statements.

The software will be ready for installation by the second quarter of this fiscal year, Dusad said.
