Oberoi Is Chief Executive Of Seagram

Param Oberoi has taken over as the chief executive of the Indian operations of global alcoholic beverage major Seagram.
Oberoi has replaced Ashok Swarup as the president of Seagram Manufacturing Ltd in a recent top-level reshuffle. Swarup _ who was appointed the president in January this year _ has been re-designated as a director with Seagram, Asia-Pacific.
Confirming the change, Swarup said his responsibilities would include consultancy in the Asia-Pacific region.

"There are a number of projects on anvil," said Swarup. Confirming the appointment of Oberoi as the new chief executive, Sanjeev Vohra, vice-president, marketing, SML, said that it was a routine change. Oberoi could not be contacted.
SMPL is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Seagram International BV, Netherlands, which itself is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canada based Seagram Company Ltd (SCL).
Seagram _ which was granted permission by the government in July 1993 to set up operations in India _ is also understood to be working out plans to make forays into films, music and recreation.
The move follows Seagram's acquisition of Polygram, one of the largest music companies in the world. It had earlier acquired film production house Universal Studios.
While the $11 billion Polygram has a vast array of global labels and talent in virtually every music genre, Universal Studios has been associated in the production of blockbusters such as Jurassic Park, Babe, ET and Jaws.
