Share prices improved marginally in two-way movements on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday due to poor support from investors. The NSE-50 opened at 1,006.65 traded in the range of 1,003.20 and 1,014.15 and closed at 1,008.80, showing a marginal rise of 2.50 points.
Dollar NSE-50 (Defty) opened at 898.65, traded between 892.05 and 905.45 and ended at 897.80 with a gain of 0.30 over the previous close of 897.50. The Midcap opened at 1,144.60, touched a low of 1,135.10 and closed at 1,137.60, a decline of 6.20 from the previous close of 1,143.80.
The total turnover was Rs 1,593.58 crores from 492.80 lakh shares and in 1,34,019 trades. ITC topped the list of the 25 top traded securities with a turnover of Rs 952.97 crores, followed by SBI-N Rs 170.72 crores, RIL Rs 163.96 crores, Tata Tea Rs 81.48 crores and ACC Rs 23.69 crores.

The top five Nifty gainers were HDFC Bank Rs 72.80 (Rs 70.55), Tata Power Rs 103.95 (Rs 100.95), RIL Rs 167.55 (163.30), MRPL Rs 19.10 (Rs 18.70) and SBI-N Rs 217.60 (Rs 213.10).
The top five losers were Essar Steel Rs 15.20 (Rs 15.55), Indo Gulf Rs 35.00 (Rs 35.75), Tata Chem Rs 141.70 (Rs 144.10), ABB Rs 489.35 (Rs 496.70) and Nestle Rs 248.15 (Rs 251.85).
Meanwhile, equities registered a moderate fall on selling pressure by investors on the Otcei. The composite index closed at 109.74, a decline of 0.42 points. The total turnover was Rs 1.52 crores involving 1,42,205 shares and debentures. Listed equity contributed Rs 13.07 lakh involving 49,500 shares. Brisk activity was seen in IIS Infotech where 15,300 shares valued at Rs 12.03 lakh were traded.
