Equities declined moderately on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday following speculative selling pressure coupled with lack of buying support from institutional investors.
The NSE-50 index opened at 1,074.25, touched the days high of 1,079.60, declined to the low of 1,050.00 and closed at 1,052.05, showing a net loss of 12.30 points over the previous close of 1,064.35.
The total turnover on the National Stock Exchange was amounted to Rs 1,374.07 crore, sharply lower from previous days business volume of Rs 1,733.41 crore.

The State Bank of India topped the turnover list by recording a highest turnover of Rs 532.59 crore, followed by Reliance Industries Rs 364.25 crore, ITC Rs 266.70 crore, Tisco Rs 41.11 crore and Associated Cement Companies Rs 36.66 crore.
Hectic activity was also observed at the certain other counters also.These counters were those of Larsen and Toubro with Rs 12.80 crore, Telco Rs 11.94 crore, IPCL Rs 11.32 crore, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited Rs 8.27 crore, BSES Rs 8.03 crore, TATA Power Rs 6.56 crore, Bank of Baroda Rs 5.12 crore, BPCL Rs 5.06 crore, Castrol India Rs 4.76 crore, Gujarat Ambuja Rs 3.38 crore, Bajaj Auto limited Rs 3.32 crore, Sterlite Rs 3.00 crore, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Rs 2.40 crore, Colgate Rs 2.30 crore, Smithkline Rs 2.30 crore, Oriental Bank Rs 2.01 crore, Hindustan Petro Chemicals Limited, Rs 1.66 crore, Oil and Natural Gas Commission Rs 1.65 crore, Hindustan Lever Rs 1.23 crore and TVS Suzuki Rs 1.08 crore.
Yesterdays top five gainers on the National Stock Exchange were Leena Textiles, National Radio, Rinki Petro, Pacific Indus and Rank Aqua Ltd.
The top five losers were Orton Synthetics, Compact Disc, India Steamship Co, J K Synthetics and Arihant credit Capital.--Agencies
