Rao announced his resignation as Congress president on Saturday after he was summoned as a co-accused in the Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case by a Delhi magistrate. That turned the tide of dissidence in his favour, although it is restricted to sympathy.
Rao's strategy for the present is to lie low, since even the courts may see that he has had to pay a price already and is not in a position of power.
