NSE REPORT

Reliance Capital debentures maturing in 2002 saw deals worth Rs 50.43 crore and the parent Reliance Industries debentures maturing in 2000 traded for Rs 50.29 crore yesterday. Corporate debentures were traded to the tune of Rs 111.44 crore. The wholesale debt market at the National Stock Exchange was quite active with the volumes traded being placed at Rs 249.74 crore.

The interest was more in securities with the short-and medium-range maturities. In the recent 5- year government paper prices moved up initially but later in the day there were sellers at higher levels, said a money market dealer. The securities which saw considerable activity were the 12.69 per cent government loan maturing in 2002 dealt for Rs 40 crore at 12.6 per cent yield.

The treasury bills market also saw activity with the January 1998 and February 1998 maturities of 364 day treasury bills drawing considerable interest. The treasury bills maturing in January 1998 saw volumes of Rs 50 crore at 9.23 per cent yield.

The calls opened in the range of 7 per cent to 7.25 per cent. There was significant activity at these levels and calls subsequently closed at 6.5 per cent. The lower calls lent support to increased activity in the markets.
