Safety Net Will Prop Investor Confidence

The small investor continues to keep away from the market and has all the more reason to just wait and watch. According to the New Delhi-based Prime Database, of the total 3872 equity issues which entered the market between April 1992-March 1996, as many as 205 were not traded at all, 2,987 were quoted below par and 69 were quoted at offer price.

Experts have been suggesting various methods with which a retail investor can be lured back into the market. The problem attached with this category of investor is emotional rather than just technical. Before offering any tax benefits, the investor needs to be assured that his investment will not be eroded and that his principal is safe.
