Mr. Alexander, incharge of the India operations of the Company seemed most positive about the continuing presence of the Company in India given the strong rapport established by the Company in its more than forty years presence in India.
LMZ products have equipped thermal and hydel power plants and the relationship goes back to the 1950s when the BHEL plant was set up with its equipment.
LMZ is also considering equity participation along with some private developers in power projects and therefore Mr. Alexander expressed his concern about the power tariff structure in the Indian states. "It was a great surprise for me, that in several Indian states electricity Supply to farmers is free of cost and even private players are required to abide by the rules. But, in many other states tariff is quite good. Presently, we have several proiects in gestation in the state of Orissa the LMZ hydel power project in process of completion, should be commissioned in two years time. Besides, we have also participated in some private captive power plants and several inquiries frorn private players are being processed."'
"In Orissa. we are also planning to participate in global tender for the Talcher project and we are considering some possibilities in Andhra Pradesh considering the sound relationship established in the last few years with developers in the state. Besides, we are bidding for some tenders in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan" Mr. Alexander elaborated on LMZ's plans in the country..
