Scrips Record Marginal Losses

The Nifty yesterday witnessed modest trading with the most of the key pivotals dipping marginally on account to lack of buying support by the foreign financial institutions (FIIs). The Nify closed lower at 1,185.05, registering a loss of 14.90 points over the previous close of 1,199.95 points. The total traded turnover touched Rs 1,709.21 crore with over 6.40 crore shares changing hands.

The Midcap index closed at 1291.85 points, a loss of 17.20 points over the previous close of 1309.05 points. The Nifty opened at 1,194.95, went to a high of 1195.95, touched a low of 1179 points before closing at 1,185.05 points. The Midcap index opened at 1308.95, touched a high of 1308.95, a low of 1,286.10 before closing at 1,291.85 points.

 

Market sources said lack of FII buying took the sting out of the market. The FII buying was limited only to select counters and also the volumes are significantly low. On the other hand the domestic institutions are holding for the moment, said an NSE dealer. The market was anxiously waiting for the fate of Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav who was denied anticipatory bail on Thursday. The fear of Laloos arrest and its repercussions on the central government kept everybody guessing, said an NSE dealer.

The Thermaax scrip witnessed hectic activity and gained 2.37 per cent to close at Rs 367.75 (Rs 359.25). The Ponds scrip closed at Rs 1,894.30 (Rs 1,857.55). The other scrips which witnessed substantial appreciation were, IFCI at Rs 34.40 (Rs 35.05), Ranbaxy at Rs 624.75 (620.55), Reliance Petro at Rs 21.05 (Rs 20,95).

The Telco scrip went down considerably and closed at Rs 384.80 (Rs 398.10). The ICICI counter also slumped at Rs 85 (Rs 87.40). The other scrips which went down were, SBI at Rs 319.60 (Rs 328.05), Andhra Valley at Rs 91.55 (Rs 93.85) and Tata Power at Rs 139.65 (Rs 143.10). Meanwhile, share prices dipped marginally on the Otce on fresh selling pressure. The index closed at 112.21, a fall of 0.42 point.

The total turnover was Rs.14.26 lakh involving 36,864 shares & debentures. Major contribution was from the listed equity contributing Rs.10.96 lakh (35,520). Listed debentures contributed Rs. 3.30 lakh (1 344 debentures).
