The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) 30-stock Sensex firmed up a further 42 points, riding on the wave of fresh buying support, to close at 3431.40 points while the National Stock Exchange-50 (NSE-50) Index gained 11 points over its previous close to settle at 1013 points.
The Sensex opened at 3390 points marginally above the previous close of 3388.80 points. During the day it touched a high of 3449.84 points and a low of 3385.91 points before finally closing at 3431.40 points.
However, at Rs 407.40 crore the total volumes traded on the BSE were marginally lower than that traded on the previous trading session at Rs 411.14 crore.
The fall was steeper on the NSE where against the volume of Rs 1009.48 crore on the previous trading session, they were Rs 817.64 crore.
According to BSE brokers, the trading volumes were steady because initially there was a certain amount of squaring up operations on the last day of the settlement cycle on the BSE.
