This is not an isolated case. Across the board, the industry is not happy with the quality of trained professionals coming out of hotel management schools. Besides, hotels have become prime target for cruiseliners, resorts and food and beverage companies looking for trained professionals. Every major hotel chain has lost employees to this emerging segment in recent times, and retaining people has become an art in itself.
This at a time when hotel management institutes are proliferating. Today, there are 19 government-run institutes of hotel management and 14 foodcraft institutes. Add to this, over 100 private institutes and we have a decent number of trained professionals entering the field every year.
But the industry has some grouses. The quality of people joining the industry is not very good. And the training imparted is not of global standards,
