Share Prices Make Paltry Gains On Sluggish Trading

On the last day of the current settlement, trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remained sluggish and the 50-share NSE index closed at 1,090.20 points, registering a gain of 6.20 points over the previous close of 1,084.

The total traded turnover at the exchange touched Rs 2,082 crore with over 5.87 crore shares changing hands. The Nifty opened on a firm note at 1,083.80 touched a high of 1,097.05 dipped to a low of 1,079.55 before closing at 1,090.20 points. The Midcap index closed at 1,238.30 points, registering a gain of 0.15 points over the previous close of 1,238.15 points.

 

According to market sources, the ITC counter remained extremely volatile and the scrip closed at Rs 570 with the total turnover touched Rs 1,121.81 crore. It crossed the Rs 600-mark but dipped to a low of Rs 563. The Reliance counter, which will become ex-bonus at the exchange today, closed at Rs 354.15 over the previous close of Rs 362.80. The total traded turnover in the RIL counter touched Rs 370 crore. According to market sources, the RIL scrip will open at around Rs 180-level today. The Hero Honda scrips hogged the limelight and the scrip crossed the Rs 1,000-mark before closing at Rs 999 as against the previous close of Rs 931.60, a gain of 7.32 per cent.

Among the major gainers were Telco, which closed at Rs 340.25 (previous close of Rs 327.30), Cochin Refineries at Rs 158.35 (Rs 152.45), Tata Chemicals at Rs 151.90 (Rs 147), Hindalco at Rs 962 (previous close of Rs 941), Indo Gulf Fertiliser at Rs 37.55 (Rs 36.70).

Among the prominent losers were, GE Shipping at Rs 43.95 (Rs 46.10), IPCL at Rs 93.95 (Rs 97.15), Reliance at Rs 354.15 (Rs 362.80), Ashok Leyland at Rs 63.50 (Rs 64.95) TVS Suzuki at Rs 414.65 (Rs 421.50).
