Some Anz Staff Go On 1-Day Strike

A section of the workmen of ANZ Grindlays went on a one-day strike yesterday protesting against the rationalisation policy adopted by the bank.

According to P N Subramanyan, general secretary of Grindlays Bank Employees Union (GBEU), nearly 400 workmen employee went on strike. However, the officers union did not participate in the strike.

The strike had taken place only in Mumbai where the bank has eight branches. However, according to the ANZ Grindlays official spokesperson, "The business of the bank ran normally. All branches were operational and all customer transactions and requirements were fulfilled."

According to Subramanyam, "The strike was undertaken since the employee were not given any work over the last few days and the management is aiming at get rid of the employees."

 

However, the bank spokesperson said that the bank has started a resources management center (RMC) which is aimed at maximising, retraining, redeploying and re-skilling employees of the bank.

Over 200 employee have already been redeployed so far.
