Bengals newest icon, cricket star Sourav Ganguly, has filed a Rs 20 lakh damage suit against tea major Tata Tea Ltd for allegedly using his name in an advertisement without his permission. Ganguly is an employee of Tata Steel.
The plaint was filed yesterday in the Calcutta High Court.
The controversial Tata Tea ad, which came out before the Sahara Cup, 1996, invited opinion from participants on would emerge as the best Indian batsman in the tournament.
The advertisement in the local media prominently featured Gangulys name alongwith that of his captain Sachin, saying: Sourav or Sachin? The plaint refers to the direct comparison sought to be made in the advertisement between the two.
