Head to the BIC for an action-packed race weekend!
Come the 1st and 2nd of December 2012 and the Buddh International Circuit will witness something of a racing extravaganza. Say hello to the Sidvin Festival of Speed, which will feature six different racing series, including the final round of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup and the JK National Racing Championship. Here is what's in store for you:
MRF Challenge 2012
MRF's new single seaters, powered by the 2.0-litre Renault engine, are no stranger to the BIC. Currently featuring the most powerful (210 bhp) single seat race cars in the country, these are the cars you really must watch out for. You'd do well to also keep an eye out for some of the drivers — Jordan King and Connor Daly had a tough battle in Round 1. Also keep an eye out for Alice Powell, the only female driver on the grid, and what a driver that too!
JK Racing Asia Series
Once upon a time this was the Formula BMW Asia series. And then JK Tyre bought it over, converting it into the Racing Asia Series. The cars in this series are powered by 1.2-litre BMW engines that make 140 bhp of power. The series is often considered one of the stepping stones to bigger single seater championships. What you'll like about it is the number of Indian drivers on the grid (we assure you, they will be there). After all, Aditya Patel had two consecutive podiums in the races during the Indian GP race weekend in October this year.
Volkswagen Polo R Cup
If you're a Volkswagen fan and drive your Polo around pretending to be a boy racer, you should head to the BIC and watch the real deal. The cars here, though, make 181 bhp, more than your ordinary Polo of course. But what sets this race apart is that the battle is on for the championship title! So, if you're trackside, you'll get to see the third ever Volkswagen Polo Cup champion crowned!
National Racing Championship
The tintops that come closest to the 'race what you bring' concept that the Indian motorsport scene has for now. The Indian Touring Cars and Indian Junior Touring Cars feature the likes of old Maruti Esteems, Balenos, Honda City VTECs, Maruti Swifts and even the odd Maruti Zen. They might not be the fastest cars around, but they're loud! And have some fiesty old drivers piloting them too! Then there is the Formula LGB 4 championship, which features single seaters built by LG Sports in Coimbatore, and powered by Swift engines. They’re fun to watch!
