Bangalore-based Spice Telecom has launched a pre-paid scheme called 'Spice currency' which allows users to choose any tariff plan as part of a move to promote its market base.

According to Fergus Wilmer, CEI Spice Telecom, Spice currency scheme eliminates documentation, verification and other activation delays. By buying these notes, the user can recharge their phones at a face value of Rs 2,000.

Spice has also drawn a plan to extend its main switching centre (MSC) to handle more traffic. Since launching the service in April last year, the company has enrolled 20,000 subscribers. It has so far invested Rs 25 crore for laying an optical fibre cable network in the state.

The company is a 51:39:10 joint venture between Modicom, Distacom and Motorola. It has also licence to operate in Punjab.
