Tax Outstandings: Sahara Tops List

The government today released the names of the top 100 companies/individuals with the maximum amount of income tax outstanding, as of June 30, 2000 in the Lok Sabha. This was in response to an unstarred question put up by Member of Parliament, Uttamrao Patil.

The companies list is headed by Sahara India Financial Corporation Ltd, followed by two public sector outfits -- Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) and Oil & Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) in that order. While Sahara India Mutual Benefit Ltd is fourth in the list, Ganapati Exports is fifth.
