Tea prices firmed up in the Coimbatore market yesterday following strong demand, with leaf quoting dearer by Re 1 to Rs 4, trade sources said.
Prices for higher and cheaper grades in leaf and dust category pushed up with good demand, both from exporters and internal buyers, they said.
The orthodox leaf quoted Re 1 to Rs 2 dearer while CTC fetched Rs 3 to Rs 4 higher.
In dust both CTC and orthodox were higher by Rs 2 to Rs 3, the sources added.
Prices for leaf ranged from Rs 85 to Rs 95 per kg, while dust was quoted at Rs 67 to Rs 74 per kg.
Out of a total quantity of 3.2 lakh kg offered, leaf contributed 2.07 lakh kg.
Traders anticipate higher prices in the coming weeks following pending export orders and enquiries.
