In 2015, around 43 per cent of the world's population, or 3.2 billion people, had access to an internet connection, compared to 2.9 billion in July 2014.

A survey by Kaspersky Lab suggests that of the 12,355 people aged above 16 years surveyed, 14 per cent respondents lost their device and 12 per cent had damaged their devices.

Among these people, 77 per cent reported loss or theft or their data resulting in serious consequences. Here is a break-up of those who suffered due to data theft or loss:
