Telecom Firms Sceptic About Dot Recast

After achieving a turnaround in 1998_99 domestic courier major Blue Dart, is now eyeing acquisitions as a part of its growth strategy.

"We are open to all ideas including acquisitions and are in correspondence with a few parties" said Clyde Cooper, managing director, Blue Dart in an interview with Business Standard. He was responding to a specific question on whether the company would be interested in acquisitions. Cooper made it clear that all activity on this front is at an exploratory stage.

Cooper's statement assumes significance in the wake of the expected shakeout in the Indian courier industry. At present, there are about 50 players operating at a national level in the Indian industry. Most of these companies are however short on technology.
