Travelling through time: Epicentre, in collaboration with Delhi International Arts Festival presents Land Of Fire, a dance theatrical that traces the journey of a Chilean woman from her past to her present. Directed by Julia Varley, the theatrical is based on the lives of Chilean actors Mara Cnepa and Rebeca Ghigliotto Canepa is an actress who has been part of films like Coronation, while Ghigliotto has been acted in popular Chilean and Spanish theatre pieces like The Puppet, Paper Marriage, and Bad Angel.

A murder, in retrospect: Instituto Cervantes  presents Chronicle Of A Death Foretold, a play based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel by the same name. A collaborative work of Promona Sengupta and Manjari Kaul, the act will have various storytelling techniques along with first person accounts by different characters. These recollections will have similarities as well as differences, which will keep the audience engrossed. These characters will also make fading references to the murder of a certain Santiago Nasar.

  Celebrating childhood: This November will see the National School Of Drama and Sanskaar Rang Toli present the 12th edition of the Jashnebachpan theatre festival. This theatre festival for children will stage a number of plays in different languages by different groups from across the country. Sanskaar Rang Toli. has staged over 1200 shows, 350 workshops catering to more than 11 lakh children apart from college students, teachers, parents and theatre lovers across the world in the last 25 years. Jashnebachpan 2014 will feature the works of directors like Swatilekha Sengupta, K.G. Krishnamurthy, Laique Hussain, Bhagirathi, Jayati Bose and N Jadumani Sing.

Art
Potter about: Around 22 potters from the city will come together to showcase their works in Cerafest- Celebrating Studio Pottery. Artists including Sandeep Manchekar, Shalan Dere and Anshu Dorairaj will be a part of the exhibition, which will attempt to bring studio potters into the mainstream of the visual arts medium. The works include tall ceramic vases, soup bowls, plates, jugs and mugs, colourful miniature magnets, jewellery, planters, platters, lamps, tea-lights and several other forms.

Bits of Britain: Folk Archive, a visual account of contemporary British culture by artists Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane, will travel to the city. The show offers a peek into a rare variety of British art and creativity beyond what audiences may have experienced, and aims to provoke cross-cultural dialogue. It will include drawing, painting, film, performance, political opinion and humour. Some objects from prisoners and community groups, Notting Hill Carnival troupes, protesters, pop fans, teenagers, villagers and even the homeless will be displayed. The exhibition is said to teeter between art and anthropology as the artists formed it by collecting 280 elements over six years.

Music
Itch to scratch: Scratch Music by Denis Ramos and Jérôme Decol is a documentary about turntablism, an underground art where sounds are manipulated using turntables to create music. The film reflects the energy of such performers during performances, their different visual and sound universes. Scratch Music, which is a tribute to all these singular artists, will be screened by Alliance Francaise de Bombay in partnership with Institut Francaise.

Piano for peace: Russian pianist Serguei Markarov, who has performed in Europe’s prestigious venues and with several international orchestras, will be in the city for a recital presented by NCPA and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India. The programme will include works by Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. The UNESCO artiste for peace has also been a part of charity concerts in the US (Carnegie Hall) and Japan (Hiroshima Conference Hall) to promote world peace. He is now a professor at the Paris Ecole Normale de Musique and Conservatoire Municipal Jacques Iber de Paris.

Maya the musical: Maya, a collaboration between Teach For India and Artists Striving to End Poverty, is a show with an original script and Broadway composed music that recounts the story of Princess Maya. Tasked with bringing light back into her kingdom, Maya and her friends show courage, compassion and wisdom to combat three curses. It's a symbol of the kind of education all children deserve. According to the organisers, the show has taken 100 participating low-income students "on a whirlwind journey of self-discovery where they, like Maya, discover their values, potential and brightest light." Proceeds and donations from the show will go towards Teach for India activities.

Drama, dance and music: To mark Kannada Rajyotsava, Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts will be organising a Yakshagana performance by Keremane Shivananda Hegde and party. The troupe will be performing Vaali Moksha. Yakshagana is a form of theatre unique to Karnataka, which combines dance, music and dialogue.

Art
The world of Halahala: “The Return of Appupen” , an exhibition, will feature original art, paintings and prints by graphic novelist and artist Appupen, the pseudonym of George Mathen. The work will be from his series on the mythical world of Halahala and his new graphic novel, Aspyrus.

Films
Not so superior: The idea that humans are superior to all other life forms is not rare, and is considered one of the fundamental reasons for the careless destruction of our environment, among other things. The Superior Human, a film by Samuel McAnallen, is a documentary that challenges this ideology, and will be screened as part of World Vegan Day celebrations.
