Tata Information Systems Ltd (Tisl), the IBM and Tata joint venture in India has signed a memorandum of understanding with Price Waterhouse Associates (PWA) to set up a network-centric computing centre (NC3) in Calcutta which will be operational by the middle of this year. This project is one of a series of initiative from IBM, which recently announced the setting up of a software training institute in Salt Lake.

The NC3 will function as a veritable showcase of IBMs software excellence in the emerging area of network computing and will be fundamental to meeting the infrastructure requirements of our customers and provide solutions to customer needs, said Michael H Colleary, director, emerging markets software, IBM Hong Kong.
It will shift the focus of marketing from brand names `push to a `pull environment.
TISL will provide network computing solutions based on IBMs software products, access to its latest technologies, including beta versions of upcoming solutions, and IBMs education & training courses. We are bullish about the eastern region which is set for a dramatic growth in software development, said Mukesh Aghi, president marketing & sales, TISL.
We are moving towards a new era which will make us more aware and competitive at a time when most organisations are seeking ways to reduce costs of maintaining systems, said Price Waterhouse Associates (PWA) director Roopen Roy.
PWA is expanding its work area at Salt Lake Technology Centre (STC). A wide area network linking the STC with PW offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai is currently being set up.
With this competence centre, we will become better acquainted with IBM technologies and solutions, Roy said.
