The government yesterday introduced in Parliament the Trade Marks Bill, 1999. The Bill will provide for registration of trade marks for goods and services.
It will also ensure that registration of imitation of well- known trade marks does not take place . It provides for enlarging the grounds for refusal of registration.
The Bill provides for simplifying the procedure for registration of registered users and also for enlarging the scope of permitted use. An appellate board will be set up for speedy disposal of appeals and rectification of applications.
