Trains services were partially restored on Howrah-Visakhapatnam section Monday with the railway authorities restoring tracks damaged due to cyclone Phailin, which crossed Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast Saturday night.

The railways repaired the damaged tracks and the signalling system in north coastal Andhra and coastal Odisha, paving the way for the partial restoration of the services. Officials said it may take another day for the services to be totally restored.

Both East Coast Railway and South Central Railway announced normal running of most of the trains. They cancelled or rescheduled some other trains. Over 100 trains were cancelled or diverted by the authorities on Friday and Saturday due to the cyclone.

The trains cancelled Monday include the Puri-Tirupati, Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar Intercity Express, Tirupati-Bhubaneswar Weekly Express, Puri-Paradeep Express and Puri-Barbil Express.

According to East Coast Railway officials, several major trains which were diverted earlier would now run on normal routes.

The trains which were diverted through Khargpur, Jharsuguda, Nagpur, Ballarshah, Warangal and Vijayawada included the Howrah-Chennai Central Mail, Howrah-Trivandrum Central Mail and Guwahati-Bangalore service.
