Tupperware In Talks With Ril For Raw Material

Tupperware India Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tupperware International, is conducting talks with Reliance Industries Ltd and the Indian Petrochemicals Ltd (IPCL) for possible sourcing of essential raw materials for its products.

According to Tupperware India managing director, Pradip Mathur, the raw material polypropylene and polyethylene are the essential raw materials which could be sourced from these two companies. We are concerned with maintenance of standard, Mathur told Business Standard.

At the moment Tupperware India gets its raw materials from two injection moulding companies in Baroda and Bangalore.

Tupperware, which specialises in producing high quality plastic food storage and serving containers was introduced in India in 1996 and plans to increase its turnover to Rs 250 crore within the next 5 years.

 

Its US-based parent Tupperware International plans to double its investment of $10 million in the next two years. In the financial year 1996-97, it made a turnover of Rs 13 crore and the projected turnover for 97-98 is Rs 30 crore.

Tupperware launched its direct marketing operations in Calcutta on Saturday, February 14, and plans to enter 17 other Indian cities within the next two years.

It has already launched its products in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.

At the moment the company has 23 distributors, 160 managers and 3,000 dealers. The companys target is to get 10 dealers per day.

In the last 5 years, Tupperware International has entered 25 new countries such as China, Russia and Indonesia. For its Indian operations it imports moulds from abroad on a re-export basis.

Tupperwares direct selling system involves over a million dealers, managers and distributors worldwide.Described as the modern way to shop each Tupperware party is a fun-filled occassion for the exchange of information of Tupperware products.

The global net sales of Tupperware International are to the tune of $1.4 billion.
