V P Shetty, executive director of UCO Bank, has been appointed as chairman and managing director (CMD) of the bank with effect from October 6, 2000, by notification of the Government of India for a period of five years.
Shetty has had a long association with various banks. Shetty joined Canara Bank in 1968 and worked there for four years. Thereafter he joined the Vijaya Bank in 1973 and worked in various capacities in rural, semi-urban, urban and metropolitan branches as branch head.
He was heading major operational divisions/zones in Mumbai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Calcutta and Delhi, including an overseas branch in Mumbai. He was in-charge of credit department and also international banking division as deputy general manager (DGM) at the head office. On his elevation as general manager, he was placed in-charge of credit recovery and personnel departments.
Before joining UCO Bank as executive director on October 11, 1999, Shetty was working as general manager in-charge of general administration and department of information technology at Vijaya Bank.
