Sluggish conditions marked trading on the Calcutta stock exchange (CSE) with share prices remaining stagnant around their previous closing levels. The markets behaviour reflected the general mood of operators to exercise renewed caution in the face of coming elections.

There was no inclination to make commitments of worthwhile nature either by bulls or bears, while the investment fraternity preferred to wait and watch, brokers said. The turnover was patchy and undertone dull. The 50-share CSE index finished at 94.80 points, losing 1.30 points over the last close.

In the specified list ACC closed at Rs 1,250, ITC at Rs 586.50 and Tisco at Rs 121.50 while Tata Tea finished at Rs 406, RIL at Rs 155.10, SBI at Rs 237.60, Telco at Rs 230.10 with HLL held at Rs 1,392.50 and Bata at Rs 136.70. Among other scrips L&T wound up at Rs 191, CESC at Rs 27.85, Castrol at Rs 649.10, Colgate at Rs 239.80, BSES at Rs 167, Bajaj Auto at Rs 507, Balarampur Chini at Rs 91.80 with Hind Motor pegged at Rs 11.15, Hindalco at Rs 614.50, RPL at Rs 22.90 and Indo Gulf pegged at Rs 22.90.
