Her voice transports you to the land of sand dunes, turbaned men and women in colourful ghagra cholis. It holds the dry warmth of the desert sun. To her fans, Reshma is the queen of the desert, and for good reason. The gypsy singer returned to her homeland after five years, and it was quite a homecoming.
The occasion: to perform at the inaugural function of the International Rajasthani Conclave, held in Jaipur on September 23. The voice was as haunting as ever. The stately Albert Hall provided an appropriately grand setting. An appreciative audience and an artist of rare talent combined to create a magical night.
Reshma herself confessed to being overwhelmed by the welcome she received. Although of Rajasthani origin, she has spent all her life in Lahore.
