Japan's coach hail's Indian Hockey team

A day after being hammered 0-9 by defending champions India in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy, Asian Games gold medallists Japan hockey team coach Siegfried Aikman hailed India's attacking style as a sight to see.

 

"I enjoy watching India because they play to win and they were too strong for us in this match," Aikman said.

 

"India played a very high quality of hockey. Their counter attacks were too good for us. We tried our level best, but they were too good for us.

 

"They played with focus and determination to perform. India are physically much stronger than us. They could also see that we had not recovered quickly from the previous day's match," he added.

Hockey India congratulates Surender Kumar on completing 100 international caps

• Hockey India has congratulated defender Surender Kumar for achieving the milestone of playing 100 international caps for the country.
• The 24-year-old achieved the feat during their third match against Japan at the ongoing 5th edition of Men's Asian Champions Trophy Muscat.
• General Secretary of Hockey India, Rajinder Singh, while congratulating Kumar, praised him for showing a consistent progress in his game.
• "On behalf of Hockey India, I would like to congratulate Surender Kumar on completing 100 International Caps for the country. He is a young player who has developed well through the ranks and I am happy to see his progress as he is regularly involved with the senior team now," Singh said.

• Kumar, who had made his international debut in 2013, said that he is proud to have represented the nation for such a long time, adding that he wishes to continue doing so.

Strikers should make quick decisions: Indian hockey coach

Despite registering a convincing 3-1 victory over Pakistan in the Asian Champions Trophy here on Saturday, Indian men's hockey team chief coach Harendra Singh has said that the strikers need to sharpen up and make decisions efficiently.

 

Complimenting his team's performance, Harendra said that the squad deserves full credit, but he was concerned with the finishing as the men took too much time in making decisions.

 

"I am proud of the manner in which the Indian team staged a comeback. They deserve full credit, but I remain concerned with our finishing," Harendra said.

 

"We missed a few chances. We are taking too much time to make decisions. That's where we need to sharpen up. Any team can score early, but what mattered is how our team came back from the early reversal," he added.
