Live | IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-3 - Good start from Sri Lanka

So far, Sri Lanka have started well and have added 36 in the first session so far without losing a wicket. Both Shami and Bumrah have bowled well, but have not been able to get a wicket. Nissnka though has been brilliant and has moved to 49 and is one short of what will be a well deserved fifty.

Live | IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-3 - India look for yet another good day at office

The third day's play would involve India looking to take wickets as quickly as possible while Sri Lanka would look to build a partnership here between Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka. Whether or not they can do it, is anybody's guess and only time can tell. On that note, it's a welcome from BS Web to all of you who have tuned in for the coverage of the third day's of play between India and Sri Lanka from the PCA's IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

The match begins at 09:30 am IST sharp.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-2 | Stumps | Live Updates: What does Day 3 hold in store?

On day three, while Sri Lanka would hope and work hard to materialise the hope of Pathum Nissnka and Charith Asalnka forming a strong partnership and then getting good enough contributions from the batters in the lower order to make sure that they cross the first barrier of 375 runs from which they are still 267 runs away. Getting to 375 would make sure that they avoid the follow-on and ask India to bat again, most probably on Day 4 which is never a good proposition.

India, on the other hand, would want to roll Sri Lanka over quickly in this innings and would then try and impose the follow on and make the Sri Lankans bat once again on Day 3 itself.

With these goals in mind, the teams would have walked off the pitch on Day 2 at Mohali's IS Bindra Stadium and on that very note, we also say end the day's coverage here at BS Web. Thanks for tuning in. We shall now meet you tomorrow morning with a blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash in the Women's Cricket World Cup 2022.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-2 | Stumps | Live Updates: Jadeja's day overall

One must say that it has been Ravindra Jadeja's day overall as not only did he score a brilliant 175*, and some would say missed out on what could have been his first as well as the first-ever double century by any number 7 Indian batter, but also came back to pick up the wicket of a well-settled Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne with only the second ball of his spell. He would have yet another wicket if not for the decision to be reversed courtesy of a well-taken review by Charith Asalanka.

There are murmurs already among the fans that the decision to not allow Jadeja to get to the double century was a selfish one by India skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. And these murmurs would get stronger and might become a noise too if India win the game with a day to spare or more than two sessions to spare.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-2 | Stumps | Live Updates: Sri Lanka finish at 108/4

With this Ashwin over, Stumps has been called on Day 2 of India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali and Sri Lanka are struggling at 108-4 with Pathum Nissnka batting at 26* off 75 balls and Charith Asalanka having opened his account on 1*. Sri Lanka are trailing by a huge margin of 466 runs.

The Lankans lost four wickets in the last session in which they were asked to bat after India declared on 574-8. Dhananjaya de Silva was out playing a very rash shot off Ravichandran Ashwin as he missed the sweep and was found plumb in front of the wicket. Dimuth Karunratane and Angelo Mathews were unlucky to be called out on the umpire's call while Lahiru Thirimanne was the first Sri Lankan wicket to fall.
