IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-3 | Live Updates: Almost gone!!

That's a blinder if a catch has been taken by Lahiru Thirimanne as he showed brilliant reactions to get a hand to the ball that was leaving him after taking an edge off Jadeja's bat. But the replays show that the ball touched the ground and Jadeja is safe. DDS might have had another wicket. But not to be.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-3 | Live Updates: Lahiru Kumara's injury

Sri Lankan fast bowler, Lahiru Kumara has been injured and it is not at all a good sign for the team as Charith Asalanka has been asked to bowl in the two overs that he has bowled so far, he has given away 12 runs. And India, even after losing Iyer seem to be going very easy with two left-handers, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.

Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne really need to think out of his hat and bring about changes to get yet another wicket here. India are 246-5 in the 67th over.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-3 | Live Updates: DDS gets Iyer

Dhananjaya de Silva has bowled a magnificent delivery here to get rid of Shreyas Iyer. The ball pitched at the off stump and he is owling around the wicket and from there he gets the ball to run away from Iyerjust a little bit to miss his bat and hit the back pad. The ball was caught by Niroshan Dickwella behind the wicket and he went for caught behind.

A review was taken by Iyer and it showed that he was declared Leg Before Wicket by the umpire and the ball was hitting middle and off in the replays and thus India wasted its review. Once again, Dhananjaya de Silva has shown how talented he is and how very easily he can fit in all the Playing 11s for Sri Lanka

The Indian team, after receiving two back to back breakthroughs in the second session, managed to bounce back and stabilise as Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant have added 29* for the fifth wicket and India are just one short of reaching the 200 run mark.

The run rate of the Indian team, which was well above for at the end of the first session has come down to 3.75 at the end of the second session. Lasith Embuldeniya and Vishwa Fernando picked one wicket each for Sri Lanka in the season session as India lost Virat Kohli for 45 and Hanuma Vihari for 58.

Earlier in the session, both Kohli and Vihario achieved personal milestones, while Kohli became only the sixth Indian to reach 8000 Test runs, Vihari brought up his fifth Test half-century. Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test, also became the first Indian to bring up his 8000 Test runs in his 100th Test. Prior to him, only two other players in the entire world have done it- South Africa's Graeme Smith and Australia's Ricky Ponting.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-2 | Live Updates: Double Whammy for India, lose Vihari too

And India have lost Hanuma Vihario as well and it's Vishwa Fernando who has stuck with his left-arm medium-pace bowling. It was bowled from around the wicket and came in with the angle as Viohario tried to drive it and got an inside edge onto the stumps and the castles behind him were broken.

Vihari had got a life earlier as he was dropped off a no-ball off the same bowler. Vihari made 58 and missed out on a great chance to score a hundred. India are now 175-4.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-2 | Live Updates: Gone!! Kohli is out

And Lasith Embuldeniya has broken a million hearts as he gets the wicket of Virat Kohli in his 100th Test and the former India skipper goes for 45. The ball turned just enough to kiss the outside edge of the off stump and in a way it was an unplayable delivery for a right-hander.

Having picked up his 8000th Test run in only his 169th inning, Kohli looked all set to get that most revered century number 71st. But it won't be now, maybe in the second innings? Who knows? Because for now, he is gone for 45 and India are 170/3 at the end of 44 overs.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-2 | Live Updates: Virat Kohli reaches 8000 Test runs

Virat Kohli has now become only the sixth Indian to reach the milestone of 8000 Test runs and what a time to bring it up in his 100th Test. He is also the third player in the history of cricket after South Africa's Graeme Smith and Australia's Ricky Ponting to bring up his 8000 Test runs in his 100th Test.

12:54 PM

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-2 | Live Updates: 50 up for Vihari

Hanuma Vihari has proved right the call of the selectors to make him new India number three as he has stitched up a beautiful fifty here. Laced with five fours and just one false shot throughout the innings, this knock by Vihari is a prime example of Rohit Sharma's book of playing Test cricket. This fifty of his has come off in less than 100 balls, which means he is scoring at a strike rate of more than 50 which is ideal.

IND vs SL | 1st Test | Day-1 | Session-2 | Live Updates: Back for the second session

Both the Indian and Sri Lankan teams are back at the ground at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Virat Kohli and Hanuma Viohari have started where they left at Lunch and have added nine runs in the first three overs. There was a huge shout for LBW by Suranga Lakmal as a ball hit Virat Kohli on the pads as he was shuffling across.

The Sri Lankan team didn't go for the review and the replays show that the ball would have missed the leg stumps. Once again a reminder, Virat Kohli is playing his 100th Test and Sri Lanka are playing their 300th Test as a team.
