And this is very poor from Mendis. He had just got the fifty and then to step out in the manners that he did against a bowl that went straight instead of coming back which an off-spinner should, was very foolish of him. The pitch of Day 3, as reported by Deep Dasgupta and Murali Kartik is going to be difficult against the batters as usual. Kartik's mantra for a batter is to not play against the spin. Use the feet and go down the ground as much as possible. For bowlers, he says, they need to bowl a bit quicker.

On Day 3, India and its bowlers, especially the spinners will be all geared up to finish the game as soon as possible and most probably in the first session itself. The onus, however, will be on the Sri Lankan batters especially the likes of captain Dmiuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis who have gone back unbeaten overnight and also on the likes of Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva who are known for playing long overhauling innings with the bat. 

 

On the other hand, Indian spinners, especially Ravindra Jadeja who didn't get any wicket in the first innings and Axar Patel, who got only one wicket in the first innings, will be itching to prove and strike with the ball as frequently as possible.

Earlier in the day, the Indian team started well as they got Sri Lanka all out for 109 in its first innings which is now its second-lowest total in Tests against India. Starting from their overnight score of 86-6, the Lankan team could bat only 35 balls and add 23 more runs to their total. Jasprit Bumrah added two more wickets to his tally of three from last night and claimed the eighth five-wicket haul of his Test career

Sri Lanka finally showed some application with the bat as even after losing Lahiruy Thirimanne in the first over to Jasprit Bumrah, they did not lose any more wickets in the seven overs that they had to face under lights and finished the day on 28/1. They now need 419 to win with nine wickets in hand three days of the Test match left. At the end of the day, Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne were batting at the crease at 16 and 10 respectively

The Indian team finished Day 2 of the second Test between itself and the visitors, Sri Lanka, on a high as it took one of the 10 wickets it needs for the victory in this Test. After getting the Lankans all out for 109, India were helped by a blistering 28 ball 50 from Rishabh Pant, which was the fastest by any Indian Test cricket history. Along with him, Shreyas Iyer scored 67 and became the first Indian to score fifty-plus runs in both innings of a Day-Night Test. skipper Rohit Sharma also scored 46 to take the Indian total 303/9 where they declared.
