Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2-Sri Lanka survive, finish day at 28/1

On the very last ball, there was a chance of a catch, but Sri Lankan batters in Kusal Mendis and captain Dimuth Karunaratne have been able to survive through Day 2 and take the game to the third day positively. This is by far the first session in a lot of days that Sri Lanka have batted in both Tests combined that Sri Lankan batters showed that they are capable of holding the bat.

Two of the top three Sri Lankan batters in Mendis, Karunaratne and Mathews are not out and along with Dhananjaya de Silva and Niroshan Dickwella, they need to try and get the team to play as many overs as possible and at least showcase some sort of fight which has not been visible so far from the Sri Lankan team

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2-Bumrah strikes in the first over itself

Jasprit Bumrah has bowled a peach of a first over, removing the Sri Lankan opener Lahiru Thirimanne for a nought to end his miserable India tour with the bat at a miserable note. The rest of the five deliveries were equally brilliant as he got the ball moving and doing something with each ball. At the end of the first over, Sri Lanka are 1/1 and now have to face 10 more overs tonight

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2 -India declare at 303/9

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma has declared at 303/9 after Axar Patel was bowled by Lasith Embuldeniya. Before that, courtesy of yet another brilliant half-century by Shreyas Iyer and good support coming in from Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Aswin and Patel, India managed to get past 300 even after being 184/5 at one stage with Rishabh Pant getting out

Iyer scored 67 off 87 balls while 22, 13, 9 and 16* were scored by Jadeja, Aswin, Axar and Mohammad Shami respectively

The Indian team has taken the lead past the 400 run mark even as Vishwa Fernando removed Ravindra Jadeja and India lose six wickets. The Indian score in the second innings has also moved past its first innings total of 252. Shreyas Iyer has also gone past 50 run mark once more as India march closer to the declaration as well. Or maybe, they might not declare today, let's see

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2 | Review gone wrong

It has been a very bad day for Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella and captain Dimuth Karunaratne as they have got two reviews horribly wrong and haven't taken reviews on three occasions where the ball would have gone to hit the wicket and they would have got wickets without any doubt. The recent one was of Ravindra Jadeja not offering a shot to Praveen Jayawickrama's delivery that was outside off. All three times, it has been Jayawickrama on the receiving end

It seems like the review system is also working against them as the pone review that they did take, the ball was not hitting the wickets

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2 | Back for the last session

Now, the two Indian batters, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja are back in the middle for the last session as India go past the 200 mark and the lead also crosses the 350 mark. With Praveen Jayawickrama and Suranga Lakmal trying to take a wicket, India are most probably looking to get as close as possible to 400 run mark as far as the lead is concerned

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2 | This is where the game was at Dinner

7:20 PM

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2 | Dinner, IND 199/5

And as it comes to Dinner, India are almost close to getting 200, thanks mainly to the entertaining knock of Rishabh Pant in which he hit 50 off just 31 balls to take India past the 150 mark quickly. The lead has now increased to 342 and it is only a matter of time before India declare the innings at a lead of around 400 or 380. For this wicket, 350 is as good as 600 on a normal wicket.

In this session, India lost four wickets of Hanuma Vihari, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Pant and scored 138 runs at almost five runs per over. Three wickets were taken by Praveen Jayawickrama while Dhananjaya de Silva picked one wicket
6:08 PM

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2-Pant's entertaining inning comes to an end

After the Sri Lankans waste review as Pant was hit on the pads without offering a shot and Karunaratne went for the review and it was turned down, Pant immediately went for a big shot, got a leading edge and the ball went in the air and was caught by the bowler, Praveen Jayawickrama himself. And that's how Pant's innings of 50 off 31 balls came to an end.

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2-Rishabh Pant breaks Kapil Dev's record

Rishabh Pant has broken a record that existed for more than 30 years as he has cored fifty of just 28 balls and broken the record of the great Kapil Dev who had got a Test fifty in just 30 balls

Live | IND vs SL | 2nd Test | Day 2-Pant redefining shot-making in Test cricket

Rishabh Pant is redefining Test cricket here. Previously too batters came like Shahid Afridi and MS Dhoni who played big shots to bowlers in Test cricket. Bot those were conventional shots. But what Pant is doing is, he is playing paddle sweeps, playing shots off his hips, not to square leg, but to the short fine leg by bending towards the off stumps and then there is always the reverse sweep to the fast bowlers too. This is a renaissance of shots in Test  cricket it seems
