Andre Russell fitness
Kolkata's dangerman Andre Russell has suffered an injury scare after being hit on his left shoulder by a bouncer during their practice. Russell was already suffering from niggles ahead of their last match against Chennai Super Kings and had failed to fire for the first time, exposing KKR's over-reliance on the West Indies big hitter. It remains to be seen if the Jamaican recovers in time. His absence would be a big void for KKR, who are looking to return to winning ways and reignite their campaign. Although team sources said, there was no major fracture or dislocation, it remains to be seen whether the big-hitting West Indies all-rounder is fit for today's match.

Here’s what happened when RCB met KKR at Bangalore
In Match 17 of VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL 2019), Andre Russell came up with sensational display of power hitting to fire Kolkata Knight Riders to a five-wicket win over Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Needing 66 runs off 24 balls, KKR were up against it before Russell came in and smashed an unbeaten 48 off 13 balls to complete the job with five balls to spare. His breathtaking knock comprised seven sixes and one four. Russell's brutal hitting came after Virat Kohli (84 off 49) and AB de Villiers (63 off 32) recreated their "magic" with a delightful 108-run stand to take RCB to 205 for three.
KKR posted 206/5, their highest run-chase in IPL history. RCB, thus, remained winless after five games. Russell hit Marcus Stoinis for three back to back sixes in the 18th over and then took on Tim Southee with figures reading 6-6-6-4-6 to leave the visitors needing just one run from the last over. He associated with Shubman Gill (3 not out) to put together a 14-ball 53 run stand for the sixth wicket.
It poured cold water on Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers' show in the first innings as the pair roared back to form to help RCB post 205/3. Chasing 206 for victory, Chris Lynn (43; 31b 4x4; 2x6) and Sunil Narine (10) gave KKR flying start. Narine did not last long, Navdeep Saini (2/34) getting rid of him.
But Robin Uthappa (33; 25b 6x4) joined hands with Lynn to add 65 runs for the second wicket. But just before the halfway stage, Uthappa lost his wicket trying to clear long off where Tim Southee took the catch off Pawan Negi (2/21).

Preview
Rejuvenated by a World Cup call-up, Dinesh Karthik would be eager to impress India captain Virat Kohli and also arrest the Kolkata Knight Riders' three game losing streak, when they lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore. It won't be easy for KKR with Andre Russell doubtful for the RCB game after injuring his left shoulder during practice at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Russell, who is KKR's leading run-getter and main hope, was hit by a bouncer from a net bowler during training and was seen writhing in pain as the support staff rushed to the ground. It is the same left shoulder where Russell was hit by a Harshal Patel delivery during KKR's match against Delhi Capitals at the Kotla. "It's a dream come true for me," Karthik had said after the selection on Monday. The veteran stumper-batsman hasn't been among runs so far but would look to deliver against RCB and more importantly, in front of Kohli.
Kohli has his own problems as far as RCB is concerned with the team all but out of the competition if they lose on Friday. Rock-bottom in the table with just one win from eight matches, RCB just haven't been in the groove this year. From the remaining six games, they would have to win all to give themselves any chance of a playoff berth.
Kohli has also not led from the front, cutting a forlorn figure on the field more often than not and also failing to fire with the bat.
