IPL 2019: Hetmyer-Mann's 144-run stand helps RCB beat SRH by 4 wickets

This was the first time that RCB had a hundred-plus partnership since 2013 when Kohli and De Villiers were not involved.

Kirsten wants "structural changes" but will he be in charge of RCB next year?

Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Gary Kirsten spoke about the need for "structural changes" in the set-up while maintaining "continuity" but the bigger question remains whether the former India coach will remain at the helm after two dismal IPL seasons.

Under Kirsten's stewardship, RCB for the second time in two years have failed to make it to the play-offs. Somehow India's World Cup winning former coach have not been able to crack the IPL code as he had similar disastrous seasons with Delhi Daredevils also.

That makes it four IPL seasons where a team has failed to reach the play-offs under his coaching.

While the RCB management have not spoken about Kirsten's future but it will not be short of surprise if he manages to hold on to the coach's post in the 13th edition in 2020.

"I have been a fan of continuity. You want to build core of players and culture and keep coming back to same players. I think most successful franchises in IPL have done that and we are searching for that in RCB. There might be structural change next year," Kirtsten told reporters on the eve of RCB's final game against Sunrisers Hyderbad.

If RCB lose, they will have to bear the ignominy of last placed finish.

Kirsten said franchises that do a lot of chopping and changing every year, run into problems.

"I am hopeful and confident that we stick to continuity of players because we need to really start building core of players we believe in and back. Franchises that do a lot of chopping and changing every year, run into problems because IPL is not about an individual performing every IPL, it will just not happen, but if you keep backing the guys they can come good for you in one season," he said.

Here’s what happened when SRH hosted RCB

In match 11 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Jonny Bairstow and David Warner smashed sensational centuries to guide Sunrisers Hyderabad to a comprehensive 118-run win over struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.  Englishman Bairstow struck 114 from just 56 balls while Warner carried his bat for a 55-ball 100 in a record 185-run first-wicket partnership to post a mammoth 231 for two after being put into bat. Bairstow punished RCB with 12 fours and seven sixes while Warner hit five fours and as many sixes in his 55-ball knock.

With a gigantic target to eclipse, RCB needed a rollicking start but the visitors' chase never got going as they kept on losing wickets to be bundled out for 113 in 19.5 overs. It was RCB's third consecutive loss in the tournament, while Sunrisers registered their second win out of three games this season.

Playing his first IPL match this season, Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi did the early damage as he picked up three quick wickets -- two in his second over -- as RCB's slumped to 22 for three by the end of the fourth over.

Nabi first accounted for Parthiv Patel and then came back to remove Shimron Hetmyer and dangerous A B de Villiers in the fourth over.

To make matters worse for RCB, Sandeep Sharma then dismissed skipper Virat Kohli in the first delivery of the seventh over.

As if that was not enough, Shivam Dubey was run out in the very next ball as RCB' chase fell by the wayside. At that stage the visitors slumped to 35 for six in 7.3 overs.

From there on, it was almost an impossible task for RCB to get back into the game and Colin de Grandhomme (37) and 16-year-old Prayas Ray Barman (19), the youngest player to make his IPL debut, just did their bit to delay the inevitable.

Sunrisers Hyderabad would look to complete the unfinished business and seal their place in the IPL Play-offs when they clash with laggards Royal Challengers Bangalore, here Saturday. The defeat against Mumbai Indians via Super Over must be hurting but they need to shrug it off and add two points to take their tally to 14, good enough to stay in top-4.Despite their defeat against Mumbai on Thursday night, Hyderabad's net run rate is +0.653, which is superior to others in contention for the Play-offs.

Even if Hyderabad lose their last match, they can still reach playoffs if Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab don't win more than one of their last two matches. In the absence of their batting mainstay David Warner, young Manish Pandey (71 off 47 balls) shouldered the responsibility pretty well in the last match against Mumbai as he pushed the match into the super over after he carted Hardik Pandya for a last-ball six to bring scores level. Mumbai Indians had scored 162 for five in the allotted 20 overs. Needing nine to win in super over, Pandya and Kieron Pollard took the side home with three balls to spare. Hyderabad had managed 8 for 2 with Jasprit Bumrah bagging Pandey and Mohammed Nabi's wickets.
