PKL 2018, Day 25, Match 2: UP Yoddha vs Bengal Warriors

UP STRIKE FORCE vs MANINDER SINGH

Maninder Singh and Prashanth Kumar Rai have this season shown themselves to be excellent finishers as their raid strike rate in the final 10 minutes of games is above 60.
In order to reduce the influence of Bengal Warriors’ right cover Surjeet Singh, UP chose to use Shrikant Jadhav and Prashanth Kumar Rai, both left-side raiders, more in the match. The battle to watch will be if they choose to continue with the same strategy and how Bengal Warriors will counter it.

UP STRIKE FORCE vs MANINDER SINGH

For Bengal Warriors meanwhile much of the raiding burden has fallen on Maninder Singh.
This was evident in Bengal Warriors’ previous match against Patna Pirates, where they were without their star raider. In Maninder’s absence the other raiders failed to score enough raid points with Ran Singh, their left corner defender being the best raider with 7 raid points.
While Jang Kun Lee and Mahesh Goud both average around 5 raid points a game, they cannot be expected to take the lead raider role.
In the first meeting between these two teams it was Maninder Singh and Prashanth Kumar Rai who went toe to toe in the last 5 minutes of the match carrying their teams almost single-handedly.

PKL 2018, Day 25, Match 2: UP Yoddha vs Bengal Warriors

UP STRIKE FORCE vs MANINDER SINGH

After doing very well early on, the raiding unit has struggled though in their two home games thus far – they scored only 14 raid points versus Tamil Thalaivas and only 12 raid points against Bengaluru Bulls. These were their two lowest raid point totals of the season.

Only Prashanth Kumar Rai has shown decent form and has contributed 7 raid points in each of the two games.  UP will need their raiders to pick up their game in the rest of the home leg.

PKL 2018, Day 25, Match 2: UP Yoddha vs Bengal Warriors

UP STRIKE FORCE vs MANINDER SINGH
The UP Yoddha raiding trio of Rishank Devadiga, Prashanth Kumar Rai and Shrikant Jadhav has been the centerpiece around which the UP team is constructed.
While most expected Rishank to dominate in this trio, it has actually been quite the opposite with Prashanth and Shrikant outshining their captain. Prashanth with 69 raid points currently leads among the three with Shrikant Jadhav just 4 points behind.
Rishank has in fact recently struggled.
o He did not play the game against Delhi
o In UP’s first home game on Friday against Tamil Thalaivas, he had 0 raid points from 5 raids and was substituted before the game could get over.
o On Saturday versus Bengaluru Bulls, UP chose to start with an extra defender in place of Rishank who came on as a substitute and took only 3 raids (2 empty; 1 failed).
