GIZMOS

A recent Kodak survey tells us women now prefer the latest technological toy instead of clothing as gifts. Over 70 per cent of the women surveyed had treated themselves to a technology product this year, highlighting the increasing popularity of gizmos among women.

A laptop may be a laptop for men, but for women the essential differentiator is design. We don't want to make an issue of it, but would someone please strangle the marketing guru who decided the quickest route to geek girls was to colour all gadgets pink!

Yes, we love our pink Sony Vaio, the rosy LG Chocolate phone, the feminine looking Moto RAZR line up, the pink Xbox/Sony Playstation consoles, but these represent just the fashion side of contraptions.

So what exactly are tech-savvy females looking for in 2007? Perhaps designs and devices tailored exclusively for the escalating tribe of tech savvy women executives. Bang & Olufsen along with Samsung will be out with Serene, a square shaped phone with a circular dial pad, scroll wheel, camera and power-assisted flip.

It looks like a makeup compact but comes in only black and could cost between Rs 40,000 -50,000. If Dolce & Gabbana is your brand, then the Moto RAZR D&G (with golden hues) could be your next mobile phone.

Women executives could desire the functionality of an HP Pavilion laptop or an Apple Macbook Pro, a Blackberry, an iMate or Treo, a wireless headset to enjoy music, a compact digital camera from Kodak, Polaroid or Sony, or a high definition flat panel display to unwind after a busy day.

Docking stations that can work with iPods, Nanos, Shuffles, MP3 players, laptops and CD players from JBL or Bose and cost between Rs 8,000-11,000 are a great choice.

Dinky and dumb are a definite no-no. Gizmos that deliver a high standard of performance (and maybe just happen to be pink) are expected to be in business in 2007.

Anyone can buy chocolates or flowers, but only an intelligent man would gift his woman something that is a compliment to her intelligence and beauty as well.
