Persistent Systems, an outsourced software product development services player, said it had made an accelerator for the rapid integration of Skype video calling. The solution accelerator would work on embedded devices like connected TVs, IP set-top boxes, mobile internet devices and media phones.
The accelerator, according to a press release, is developed by Persistent’s multimedia technology group and is based on Skype’s SkypeKit SDK. It addresses the complex challenges of enabling Skype video calling on a wide variety of embedded devices with diverse uses. It has been successfully ported on several tier-I original equipment manufacturer chip sets running on Android and Linux operating systems. Persistent’s Skype video solution kit includes portability across operating systems, processor platforms, feature complete reference of Skype GUIs developed in Qt, Flash and HTML, memory scalability and well-defined interfaces. It also includes support for external encoding of H.264 USB cameras for TV/STB applications and standard YUV cameras for other applications, hot plug device and event handlers. Processor companies, camera partners and customers have carried out closed room demonstrations of Persistent Skype Video demonstrations at leading technology events.
