Acer launches PC powered by Intel. 915G Express Chipsets

Acer Aspire RC950 and Acer Veriton 7700G to combine unique productivity and entertainment tools and features.
 
Here is the text of the press release issued by Acer today:
 
To cater to the rising demand for PCs with greater scalability and bandwidth for multimedia and digital data manipulation, Acer has launched the Acer Aspire RC950 consumer PC and the Acer Veriton 7700G commercial desktop.
 
Both products are based on the latest Intel® 915G Express Chipset and are meant to enhance the home entertainment experience and give desktop PCs the ability to run a wireless home network. While the Aspire RC950 will only be available in India on a turnkey project basis, the Veriton 7700G will be available in India shortly.
 
The Acer Aspire RC950 features a contemporary design, smooth sleek lines and a black metallic colour to complement any living space. It also saves space at home by combining the functions of a standard PC, VCD/DVD player, radio, TV, CD/MP3 player, and more - all in one intelligent machine. In addition, the Acer Aspire RC950 has home-appliance appeal and comes with a handy remote control and an Acer Super dial feature to switch between PC mode and seven different entertainment modes.
 
Featuring innovative PCI Express(tm) technology for multimedia flexibility and solid support in handling multitasking usage scenarios, the Acer Aspire RC950 features an Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 560, featuring advanced 800 MHz front-side bus, supporting Hyper-Threading technology (HT1), Intel® 915G chipset with ICH6, 512 MB RAM expandable to 2GB, 160 GB HDD, 7-in-1 card reader, DVD SuperMultiPlus drive, built-in Gigabyte Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000, modem and wireless keyboard and mouse.
 
The Acer Veriton 7700G meanwhile also features an Intel Pentium 4 processor 560, with 800 MHz front-side bus, supporting Intel Hyper-Threading technology, Intel 915G with ICH6, up to 4 GB of DDR400 memory, 160 GB HDD, Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express(tm) X1 and Integrated graphics with DVMT 3.0. It also has two PS/2 ports, a 9-pin serial port, a 15-pin parallel port, Eight USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet (RJ-45) port, VGA/video port, and front-accessible audio jacks. It comes with several software utilities such as Acer LANScope, Norton® AntiVirus(tm), Acer Desktop Management and Personal Setting Migration.
 
Speaking at the launch of the products, Mr. S. Rajendran, GM - Sales & Marketing, Consumer Products Group, Acer India said, "Acer has always been at the forefront in supporting the latest technologies that enhance customer experience. With home PCs and offices PCs absorbing more consumer application functionality, end-to-end digital entertainment experience can now be combined with productivity seamlessly. This is the vision behind the launch of these products."
 
Commenting on the launch, Mr. G.B. Kumar, Director - Sales, South Asia, Intel Technology (I) Pvt. Ltd. said, "Intel innovation is evolving traditional PCs to help people to better enjoy digital music, photos, videos and games on PCs and other devices in and around the home. At the same time, the technologies we are introducing for the PC platform will help drive new uses that boost office productivity, such as simultaneously using multiple monitors with just one PC to work on and track several projects."
 
With the rise of the "information appliance" (IA) concept, more high-tech equipment is expected to absorb consumer appliance functions. According to Gartner, with the expansion of digital broadcasting and high-definition (HDTV) programming and HDTV may become a standard media PC feature by 2006.
