Maxis plans to turn Aircel into a national player through organic growth and acquisitions.

Baskar said Aircel would look at establishing themselves as a national player through organic and inorganic ways.

It is already a leading player in regions like Tamil Nadu and Chennai, and is currently expanding its reach in other markets like West Bengal, Orissa, Assam, North-East, and Jammu and Kashmir.

It will be rolling out its services in Bihar and Himachal Pradesh in the next 2-3 months.

He said that the company's expansion plan across the country would require an investment of $300-$400 million in acquiring licenses for other circles and another $300-$400 million for setting up infrastructure in those circles.

He indicated that the cost of the expansion could be financed through debts and internal funds.

Baskar said Aircel would be making use of Maxis' experience in Malaysian market, especially in service quality excellence and people development. Maxis' experience in 3G will also be useful when we go for such services.

"We will get our staff trained in new technologies through Maxix Academy for Sales and Customer Care," he added.
