Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (OSCSCL) has launched a pilot project on computerisation and mobile enablement of the fair price shops in the state. The project was inaugurated today in the city by RK Sharma, secretary, food, supplies and consumer welfare department of the Orissa government.

The software application for the project has been provided by Airtel. The corporation has already tested the project at one of the fair price shops and it will shortly be extended to all the 25,000 fair price shops across the state.

The hand held device designed for the project can display the stock position at any fair price shop and also show the information on the commodities allocated to each customer and closing balance of the stock at the shop. The device will also give a unique identity to each transaction and at the same time, register a replica of the transaction on the central server placed at the corporation office.
