The company in a statement issued said that disaster recovery services were implemented and calls rerouted, which has resulted in 90 per cent network services being functional.

"There was a major fire at Peninsula Chambers, Lower Parel, Mumbai which houses several companies. The fire was caused by a short circuit in the common power cables, belonging to Tata Power. The access to the building was blocked for a considerable period of time because of the fire. As one of our offices is in housed in the same complex, some of our customers in parts of south and central Mumbai got affected," Bharti Airtel said in a statement.

The fire was brought under control and with support from the company's partners Nokia, Ericsson and IBM, services were shifted to redundancy sites.

On Friday, the fire disrupted around 20 per cent of the company's total subscriber base of around 2.5 million in the city, with users unable to make or receive calls. Bharti Airtel, the country's largest private sector company, has a total subscriber base of 69.4 million users across all circles in the country.

The fire broke out following a short-circuit of a power cable and resulted in stalling of the Airtel's services at Lower Parel, Worli, Churchgate and adjoining areas.
