Altair Engineering, a global player in engineering software and grid computing technology, announced that it has identified Bangalore to play a critical role in the company's expansion plans.

The company has announced the setting up of a new development centre with a capacity to house 120 professionals in addition to its existing facility housing 100 developers.

The new facility has been set up to develop, support and provide professional services for sales and engineering services. It will play a critical role in the creation of both new product lines, capitalising on a mix of product skills and latest-generation technology knowledge.

Nelson Dias, MD, Altair India, said: "The growth in scope and scale is a reflection of our renewed focus on our customers and partners in India. Altair's strong presence across nine countries has given us a strong business advantage. Wherever we do business, we can balance the economy of scale with real local knowledge. Our operations in Bangalore are core to our strategy and by the end of 2005, we expect to grow our staff strength in Bangalore from around 105 to around 200. We have also set up satellite engineering centres in Pune and Delhi respectively to service product development-related engineering services within the engineering belts in those regions. This is a reflection of the speed at which the Bangalore team has established its reputation for innovation, customer service and quality."
