Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) today said it has roped in Hewlett Packard (HP) India veteran Ravi Swaminathan to head its India operations.

Swaminathan has been appointed as managing director and regional vice-president of sales and marketing for AMD India, effective January 4, 2010, AMD said in a statement.

Swaminathan was previously heading HP India's personal system group (PSG) division, which takes care of the personal and commercial PCs.

He will be responsible for growing AMD India's sales and marketing functions in the country and he will report to AMD (Asia Pacific) Corporate Vice-President and General Manager Benjamin J Williams, it added.

"Ravi has extensive experience building relationships with large enterprises, government, small and medium businesses as well as consumers and his experience will be a strong asset to AMD India's leadership team as well as to the broader Asia Pacific and worldwide sales and marketing teams," Williams said.

Swaminathan replaces Ram Subramanian, who will remain a senior member of the AMD team responsible for corporate strategic development.

Dasaradha Gude will continue to be managing director for AMD India, responsible for engineering and operations, it said.
