The Andhra Pradesh government is launching 17 skill development centres in mobile application development for students from colleges and universities. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is formally launching one of these centres at Vijayawada on Monday, an official spokesperson said in a statement.

So far, over 650 students from 98 colleges had been enrolled for the programme, which was initiated a month ago. These students had already developed close to 3,000 mobile apps. Some of these apps could eventually be absorbed for e-governance solutions, according to the spokesperson.

The skill development centres are being set up by the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) and have app developers and experts drawn from software companies like Microsoft. The students are being trained by these experts.

The APSSDC is planning to train 5,000 students in app development by April-May and 20,000 students by August-September this year, “This is part of the government’s efforts in creating entrepreneurs who have a unique opportunity to lead the world of innovation,” he said.
